Proposal Overview

This proposal aims to add functionality to our bypp IoT smart hardware products to integrate with Cardano L1 and L2, enabling a blockchain-driven hardware control system that extends beyond the internet.

By leveraging L2, we aim to suppress "ledger bloat" and "complex microtransactions" on L1 while ensuring transaction consistency and tamper resistance off-chain, thereby realizing a smart Blockchain × IoT solution.

Lock'n' Key

Objective

Current DApps tend to operate solely within the online internet space, limiting their use cases. However, we believe that blockchain technology has broader application areas and greater potential.

To expand the application areas of blockchain, one approach is to increase adoption in relatively underexplored development domains, such as building DApps that closely integrate with hardware.

This project aims to enable IoT smart hardware to support Cardano L1 and Hydra L2, realizing a Blockchain × IoT solution.

Additionally, one of the deliverables, an SDK, will be developed as open source, accelerating the entry of developers and companies in hardware-related fields into the Cardano ecosystem.

Why Hydra?

Real-time performance is a critical factor for IoT devices. Hardware operates on millisecond, microsecond, or even nanosecond scales, with numerous events such as sensor data acquisition and actuator control occurring in real time. These events must be processed reliably within specified timeframes.

However, processing these events on-chain is impractical due to real-time performance and transaction fee considerations. Furthermore, many blockchain solutions operate on a scale of seconds to minutes, posing several challenges for direct adoption in hardware-related domains.

Cardano L2 Hydra is an off-chain solution that maintains protocol compatibility with Cardano L1 while achieving high security. One of Hydra's key features is its "millisecond-order high-speed transaction processing capability."

By leveraging Hydra, we aim to realize a real-time blockchain system that is highly compatible with hardware.
